What are Social Skills Groups?
Social skills groups are offered in-person. Social skills groups feature a variety of themes such as learning to engage in functional play with peers including turn taking, requesting, sharing, engaging in group routines, and more.
Social skills groups will help to further develop your child’s communication skills and daily living skills by learning and practicing through fun and exciting activities each week.
The ratio for each social skills group changes based on the child’s needs and skills, up to a ratio of 2 staff to 8 children.
What is the focus of Social Skills Groups?
The focus of social skills groups is to help and support children to reach their potential in social and communication skills and to improve their daily living skills.
What are the pre-requisites to join the Social Skills Groups?
- Can wait appropriately for at least 5 minutes
- Can tolerate groups or be with other children
- No significant problem behaviours or safety concerns (bolting/flight risk/aggressive verbal or physical behaviour/self injurious behaviour)
- Does not require 1 to 1 support
- Toilet trained
- Can follow 1 step instructions and requests
- Can participate in activities safely
- Can participate in some conversation (depends on the theme that week)

“Theme Thursdays” – Ages 5 to 8 – WAITLIST
This 8-week social group will focus on cooking, crafts, and other activities, each week with a different theme. From Superhero Day to Pizza Party to Planning a Picnic, participants will learn new kitchen and organization skills. There will be opportunities to socialize during the group.
Location: 643 Park Road North, Brantford
Date: Thursdays from September 7th to October 26th, 2023
Time: 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
Ratio: 4 participants to 1 staff (min 3 children for the group to run)
Cost: $25 per child
“Master Chefs: Fall Foods” – Ages 13-17 – WAITLIST
This 8-week social group will focus on advanced cooking and baking skills. Each week participants will further their cooking skills by learning to prepare a variety of comfort fall meals. Ranging from main dishes, to desserts, and appetizers, participants will develop their cooking techniques while appreciating some in-season ingredients. There will be opportunities to socialize during the group.

Date: Thursdays from September 7th to October 26th, 2023
Time: 6:15 pm to 7:45 pm
Ratio: 4 participants to 1 staff (min 3 children for the group to run)
Cost: $25 per child
November & December 2023

“Tiny Scientists” – Ages 5 to 8 – WAITLIST
This 8-week social group will allow participants to create various science experiments. Exploring various activities each week, participants will safely test and build various materials, building on their hypotheses each time. There will be opportunities to socialize during group.

Date: Thursdays from November 2nd to December 21, 2023
Time: 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
Ratio: 4 participants to 1 staff (min 3 children for the group to run)
Cost: $25 per child
“Master Chefs: Appetizer Edition” – Ages 13-17 – WAITLIST
This 8-week social group will focus on advanced cooking and baking skills. Each week participants will further their cooking skills by learning to prepare various appetizers. Participants will learn recipes for classic crowd pleasers, and new ideas to bring home. Exploring dips, finger foods, and different hors d’oeuvres, participants will learn how to create various foods great for gatherings. There will be opportunities to socialize during the group.
