Linking Youth and Families

What is the Linking Youth and Families Program?

The Linking Youth and Families Program connects with teens and families experiencing high parent/teen conflict. The connection is made because without someone stepping in, it is likely the teen will be admitted to the care of the Halton Children’s Aid Society.

If the teen does go into care, the program supports the youth with discharge and the return to home.

Make A Referral

Referrals to the Linking program are made by the Halton Children’s Aid Society (CAS).

Is the Linking Youth and Families Program right for your child?

Do the following apply? If so, the Linking Youth and Families Program might be helpful for you and your teen.

  • Is your teen 11-17 years old?
  • Is there high conflict between the parent/caregiver and the teen?
  • Is the teen at risk of going into the care of the Halton Children’s Aid Society?
  • Is your teen willing to work to stay within the family?
  • Is your teen willing to meet regularly with the family and a counsellor to discuss issues?
  • Do you as the parent/caregiver want to prevent your teen going into care?
  • Will you as the parent/caregiver work hard to keep the teen in your home or with other family members?
What is the focus of the Linking Youth and Families Program?

In this program, a counsellor steps in to listen to and address the concerns of both parent and teen. The counsellor works with the teen and the family to find solutions to the conflicts and to set reachable goals.

Counsellors will also help in finding and connecting the teen and family with other supports.

The goal is to keep the teen at home instead of going into the care of the Halton Children’s Aid Society.

Other program services include the following:

  • Parenting information sessions and education
  • Triple P parenting strategies
  • In-home support
  • Follow-up and support as required
