Is counselling right
for your child?

Children and teens go through ups and downs as they grow and face new experiences and challenges. Most of these ups and downs are normal and nothing to worry about. If, however, there is a marked change in your child’s moods, emotions or behaviours, and, if these changes interfere with functioning at home, at school or in the community, it may be helpful to seek counselling.

*Counselling services are open to all. But, priority is given to children and youth with serious mental health concerns such as harm to self and/or other including suicidal ideation/attempts and/or hospitalization.

Brantford counselling services can help

If a child or youth in your care is 7 to 18 years old (up until their 18th birthday) and shows any of the following, Brantford counselling services can help them and the family.

  • Changes in mood: extreme mood swings or suddenly feeling anxious, sad, tearful, worried.
  • Problems at school: with learning performance, peers and/or classroom behaviour.
  • Sudden changes in daily patterns: difficulty sleeping or staying asleep or problems with appetite.
  • An increase in physical complaints: stomach ache, headache, not feeling well.
  • Behavioural changes: excessive anger, acting out (hitting, fighting, extreme tantrums, stealing), bedwetting.
  • Decreased interest in previously enjoyed: hobbies, foods, activities

What is the focus of Brantford counselling services?

  • addressing identified needs and challenges;
  • strengthening awareness and understanding of the challenges and why they might be occurring;

Testimonials

Friendly, knowledgeable staff, we liked that the whole family was included in this process. Very informative.

Parent

The availability of the workers is great. I always felt like I was being heard and I was respected.

Parent

What I liked best was learning new strategies to help cope with thoughts of self-harm and suicide. Talking to someone who I could trust and didn’t feel forced to talk about something.

Youth

Having support I previously lacked; in that within this program rather than just being validated, I was able to look closer at the issues I was having and learn how to deal with them.

Youth

98% of parents responded that Woodview’s services were respectful.
