Zack’s Story

Looking back, the challenges Zack and his family faced in the early years were overwhelming. From sleepless nights and sensory struggles to the constant fear of Zack running away due to his flight risk, life was a whirlwind of stress and uncertainty. Navigating “The World of Autism,” as his mother Natasha describes it, required immense patience, creativity, and determination.

When Zack joined Woodview’s respite program, the impact was life-changing. Zack began to thrive in an environment where he was supported, understood, and celebrated. He grew from being a child at high risk of flight to one who eagerly participates in activities and listens well to instructions. His transformation into a social, enthusiastic young man who enjoys helping others and learning new things is a testament to his resilience and the support he received.

Small Steps, Big Wins

Zack’s progress has been remarkable. Through inclusive and well-organized programs, he developed new skills, from building with wood to learning to ride a bike and even cutting his hair with ease—a milestone reached with the loving help of his older brother. These achievements reflect not only Zack’s determination but also the unwavering support of his family and the dedicated staff at Woodview.

“Some people work for a paycheck, but some work from their hearts,” says Natasha. “Those are the ones you want to keep—the ones who see the best in everyone.”

A Bright Future Ahead

Today, Zack is a gentle giant with a big smile and an even bigger heart. He participates in Special Olympics snowshoeing, loves dances and swimming, and is an impressive builder of LEGO masterpieces. Recently, Zack made and sold crafts at a young entrepreneur sale, earning over $200, and completed a YMCA leadership program. His involvement in these activities shows his incredible growth and newfound confidence.

Natasha credits the opportunities provided by Woodview for giving Zack the chance to enjoy life like every other teen. “We believe in abilities versus disabilities. If you have hope, love, and inclusion, you can do anything.”

Natasha described the Woodview team as individuals who work not just for a paycheck but from their hearts. She praised the team’s unwavering dedication, inclusivity, and ability to see the best in every child, noting the meaningful difference they have made in Zack’s journey and her family’s life.

Zack’s respite worker Melissa shares that “He enjoys going to the Brantford airport cafe for blueberry pancakes, before checking out the planes. Once a month we attend the youth/adult dance at the Abilities Centre, and he somehow manages to talk me into ice cream after every dance.” She adds, “I think I’ve been the lucky one to be along side him for the past few years, seeing how much he has grown up, and become more independent and adventurous.”

Gratitude for the Donors Who Make It Possible

“To the donors and supporters of Woodview, thank you for making a difference in our lives,” says Natasha. “Your generosity has helped Zack gain the skills, confidence, and joy he deserves. You’re not just supporting a program—you’re building brighter futures for kids like Zack.”
