The Jen Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honour the memory of Jen Brown who in May 2020 passed away far too early.

Jen breathed and embodied social justice

Jen worked with Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services from 2005 to 2016. In those 11 years she gave her heart, soul and grit to the YODA Program (Youth Overcoming Depression and Anxiety) and the early stages of the youth engagement initiative.  Jen put the client at the centre of the service, was a voice to the voiceless, and was always fighting for the underdog.

Jen always advocated for her clients and their families 

She passionately believed that barriers could be overcome and everyone could achieve their dreams. Jen knew she wanted to do more.  And so she took the courageous leap and said goodbye to her Woodview family to pursue her dreams of becoming a lawyer in order to continue to fight for the underdog. 

Fighting for the Underdog

Jen graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School, with a primary focus on the law as it affects persons with disabilities; including Constitutional Law, Human Rights, Education, Consent and Capacity.  Jen’s commitment for helping grew even stronger as a lawyer, her integrity never waivered as she challenged the system to ensure that an individual’s dignity and well-being was at the forefront.

Why We Created This Fund

Woodview wanted to ensure we memorialize Jen’s memory of going above and beyond with a scholarship to help students achieve their dreams of higher education.  As part of the Woodview way we want to support our communities in developing resiliency, well-being and independence.  We hope this scholarship can offer addition support and celebrate you in your journey.

Helping Students Achieve Dreams

Jen leaves behind a legacy of finding a voice for the voiceless, and finding equality for individuals that have struggled throughout their life.  Jen started from humbled beginnings but never stopped dreaming of helping people.  Jen advocated for others to be heard and accomplish their dreams. Jen’s talent to help others find access to resources will be memorialized through the recipient of this scholarship and her mission of helping people obtain their dreams will live on.

This scholarship is offered exclusively for participants, current or previous, in the Woodview Mental Health and Autism Programs. The amount of $1,500.00 will be award to one successful candidate per year to help with the cost of post-secondary education.

The scholarship fund is administered by the Community Education Awards Hub at the Oakville Community Foundation.

How to Apply for the Scholarship

Application Criteria

This scholarship is offered exclusively for participants, current or previous, in the Woodview Mental Health and Autism Programs.

Applicant must:

• Demonstrate commitment to learning*
• Be accepted to a post- secondary program (i.e. university, college, trade school, continuing education, life skills programs, etc.)
• Have a dream they have worked to achieve through obstacles
