Celebrating Wendy Caron

November 17, 2024

Today, was a special day at the stunning Rock Garden at the Royal Botanical Gardens for a truly special occasion – high tea and celebration for the 35 incredible recipients of the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal. Among them… our very own Wendy Caron!  Wendy – a member of the Woodview family – retired in September 2024 after 26 years of dedicated service to children, youth, and families in Burlington.

Wendy’s recognition with this prestigious medal is a proud moment for all of us at Woodview Mental Health & Autism Services. Wendy has been an incredible supporter and advocate for children and youth navigating complex mental health challenges, and has mentored an incredible mental health team in Halton so much so that her impact resonates deeply in our community.

For over two decades, Wendy led life-changing mental health programs like Youth Overcoming Depression and Anxiety (YODA), Dano and Mountaineer day treatment, and the Halton Counselling and Outreach Program. Her leadership was more than just guiding programs—it was about creating a space of hope and healing for countless families. Her warmth, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to youth mental wellness inspired those around her, leaving a legacy that will endure for years to come.

The nomination for Wendy’s Coronation Medal perfectly encapsulates her contributions:

“Wendy Caron has significantly impacted the Burlington community over her 26-year career at Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services. Wendy has provided crucial mental health support to children and youth, serving clients with complex needs. Wendy’s leadership in mental health programs addressing anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues has transformed lives, offering hope and healing to many families. As Wendy received her medal, we reflected on her incredible career and the countless lives she’s touched. Hearing the stories of all 35 honourees reminded us of the profound impact selfless individuals have on their communities. We are grateful to Minister Karina Gould for creating this opportunity and to Mayor Marianne Meed Ward for her heartfelt dedication to Burlington.

In September, a special retirement party was organized by long-time friends and colleagues, Chris Clattenburg and Laura Harper to celebrate Wendy’s amazing career. The pub was filled with laughter, tears, and reunions, as many of Wendy’s past and present colleagues gathered to share stories of her kindness, mentorship, and humour. Her family sat at the table of honour, and her team presented her with a heartfelt gift: a hand-carved Muskoka chair set and table engraved with their names—a lasting symbol of their gratitude and love.

The evening felt like a reunion of Woodview’s history, with so many past staff members who worked alongside Wendy returning to celebrate her remarkable legacy. It was a testament to the deep bonds Wendy forged during her career, not just with the children and families she served, but with her colleagues who were inspired by her leadership.

Wendy, your legacy of compassion and dedication will always be a part of Woodview. Congratulations on this well-deserved honour, and thank you for making Burlington—and the world—a better place!
