Celebrating, Honouring & Learning for Black History Month
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Black History Month celebrations on social media! This year’s theme of ‘February & Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day‘ inspires us to continue celebrating, honouring, and learning from Black voices – beyond just this month.
We shared stories of historical – and present day – leaders in the Black community from a variety of backgrounds including business, the arts, government, and more:
In Conversation with Annmarie Morais of CBC’s The Porter
We were incredibly honoured that Annmarie Morais of CBC’s THE PORTER graciously granted Woodview an exclusive interview! Nicki Straza (Engagement Lead) & Genelle Pollydore (Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator) chatted with Ms. Morais about the new CBC series THE PORTER, her passion for raising awareness of racial inequalities & Black History Month!
About the TV Series
THE PORTER is a new fictional drama series from CBC, inspired by real events, that celebrates the lives, stories and pivotal-yet-often-ignored achievements of the Black train porters and their families and communities in the 1920s, who played an essential role in shaping Canada and the United States.
THE PORTER premiered on Monday, February 21, 2022. Watch new episodes airing weekly (Mondays at 9pm on CBC TV + streaming on CBC Gem) through April 11th.
We’ll continue working through the Periodic Table of Black Canadian History and sharing other valuable resources. Woodview is committed to building an inclusive culture and environment where the people that we serve, our staff, and partners can feel safe, welcome, and accepted. Read our EDI statement from 2020.
