What is the Supported Independent Living Program?

The supported Independent Living (SIL) program is a safe and positive residential space for individuals who have autism who are looking to practice and expand their independent living skills.

Is the
Supported Independent Living Program
right for you?

The Supported Independent Living Program right for you if:

  • you are a low support needs individual with ASD;
  • you are a Hamilton resident;
  • you have independent hygiene, toileting, cooking and mobility skills;
  • you qualify through Developmental Services Ontario (DSO);
  • you are willing to live with roommates and participate in some group supports;
  • you are interested in working on individual life skills goals;
  • you can live independently most of the time with periodic supports available through out the week; and
  • you can engage in safe behaviour in a residential, community and group setting.
What is the focus of the Supported Independent Living Program?

The focus of this program is to provide small-group living. Weekly supports by staff are provided around finances, meal planning, community access and individual life skills goals.

Location

The Supported Independent Living Program is located on the Hamilton Mountain.

Schedule

This residential support is in a townhouse that is the home of the adult residents. This housing is available all year with some staffing breaks due to holidays.

Program Cost

Government funding (MCSS) and our partnership with Kiwanis Homes allows us to provide an affordable cost for our residential services. Living and support fees will be discussed with families at an initial meeting.
