Halton Adolescent Day Treatment Programs

What are Halton Adolescent Day Treatment Programs?

There are two Woodview Adolescent Day Treatment Programs in Halton region:

  • Day Treatment for Adolescents and New Opportunities (DANO) Day Treatment Program
  • Mountaineer Adolescent Day Treatment Program

Both programs are for high school aged youth with symptoms of depression and/or anxiety. Services are provided to the youth and their family.

Each of the day treatment programs are school-based. Woodview partners with the Halton District School Board to provide day treatment programs, and works with other Halton School Boards. The classroom teacher is an employee of the Halton District School Board and delivers the academic program. The main focus of the program is treatment.

What is the focus of the day treatment programs?

To provide treatment to Halton youth who are exhibiting symptoms of depression and anxiety, requiring a day treatment setting.

Both day treatment programs provide group therapy sessions (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy). The sessions support high school youth dealing with anxiety and depression that interferes with their relationships, well-being and school performance.

Students attend the programs full-time for one semester (Phase One)

In the second semester (Phase Two) students attend the program for half day and attend their community school for half day.

While part of the program, students have academic support and are able to earn credits. (*Not all courses are available).

Additionally, the following services are offered with both Day Treatment Programs:

  • Youth will participate in two academic classes per day, accruing secondary credits while in the program (not all academic courses are available)
  • Evening Parent Group (compulsory) 10 weeks, Phases One and Two
  • Transition plan with collaboration of community school; and
  • Liaison with Community Supports.

After a referral is made you will meet with Woodview staff. This meeting is about determining if the day treatment program will help meet the needs of the youth referred.

DANO – The parent group and family sessions dovetailed nicely with the day treatment program. It was very useful in allowing our family to better support our child and also proved of therapeutic benefit to us. The day treatment component was excellent in providing daily support, feedback, and goal-setting for my daughter. She saw the progress, grew in confidence and felt empowered by the program. Expanding the program such that more students that meet the criteria have access is extremely important. Without this program, I feel strongly that my daughter would not have achieved anywhere near her potential and most likely would not have graduated from high school. All students that need this level of support should have access to a program of this quality.

Parent

This program has helped so much. I can’t even imagine where we would be without DANO.
