Reports To: Clinical Manager
This position oversees and facilitates the operations of respite service to ensure optimal service delivery, co-facilitating programs and supervising staff in the agency or in the community to ensure optimal service delivery. This position will have 6 to 8 direct reports.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to:
Management and Supervision
1. Supervises and evaluates staff, using supervision practices which are respectful, inclusive, maintains boundaries and supportive of growth, learning, participation, accountability and responsibility by providing regular supervision and support.
2. Participates in hiring of team members – in consultation with the Manager/Director; assists in the interviewing of new employees.
3. Carries out performance appraisals/evaluations of designated staff and directs the training and development of staff including job coaching.
4. Creates and maintains schedules for each group.
5. Provides guidance regarding reporting to parents.
6. Coaches and counsels’ staff to maintain optimum morale, resolve issues and ensure smooth operations.
7. Oversees staff data collection and group goal setting.
8. Monitors work to ensure the safety of clients and staff when using either Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (PMAB) or Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) techniques.
9. Provides strong leadership and direction in development and implementation of program activities.
10. Supervises and evaluates designated staff, using management practices which support growth, learning, participation, accountability and responsibility.
11. Monitors, evaluates and implements modifications of a specific treatment program, in consultation with the Director, Services.
12. Promotes diversity, health and well-being.
13. Performs other tasks as assigned by management.
Knowledge and Skills
1. Incumbent must be trained in AODA, First Aid, CPR, PMAB and/or NVCI-Autism, WHMIS, ASSIST and InterRAI training may be required.
2. Post secondary education in appropriate discipline (Child Youth Work or Social Work) from a recognized University/College preferred or the equivalent in experience.
3. Several years experience working in a social service environment and a high degree of resourcefulness, flexibility and adaptability.
4. Must have a well defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution and people management skills.
5. Must have effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail.
6. Incumbent must have proven assessment skills, critical thinking and decision making skills.
7. Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
8. Must have the ability to take initiative, work autonomously and meet targets/deadlines.
9. Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills are required to assess situations and implement action.
10. Sound judgment is essential as is the ability to be politically and culturally sensitive.
11. Incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
