Woodview’s Hamilton L.I.F.E Adult Day Program is currently seeking a qualified, skilled individual to deliver a variety of services based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). This position provides services and supports to adults with ASD. Services are focused on skills development in the areas of:
  1. Life Skills
  2. Communication
  3. Social Skills
  4. Behaviour Management/Emotional Regulation
The start date for this position is February 19th, 2018
Responsibilities:
The ASD Counsellor is responsible for facilitating the learning and the development of a variety of life, academic and social skills in small group and community settings to adult clients with a diagnosis of ASD. This role focuses on both direct and group client support. Clients are supported to learn skills through 1:1 instruction, structured and/or informal group learning opportunities, recreation and leisure activities.
In addition to the above, key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Implementing Behaviour Support Plans (BSP), recording and maintaining relevant notes (ex. Behavioural Data Collection, etc.), tracking client progress and other relevant data as determined by the Program Manager
  • Communicating and collaborating with families, as well as a variety of professionals and community agencies
  • Taking leadership and initiative in planning and implementing adult groups, including communicating with families with regard to goals, progress, future planning, etc.
  • Participating in ongoing evaluation and appraisal of effectiveness of all activities and programs
  • Committing to ongoing training and growth in the field of Autism
  • Ongoing communication and collaboration with Teammates
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Degree from a recognized community college or university in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorders, Behavioural Sciences, Psychology, or equivalent, and/or specific professional knowledge and experience working with individuals with ASD.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience applying the principles of ABA
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour in adults
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional time management
  • Current certification in first aid, CPR, and ASD-Non-Violent Crisis Intervention would be an asset
  • Must have a valid G license and the willingness/ability to drive agency vehicles, including acquiring an F-Class license
