The Woodview Ontario Autism Program (OAP) is currently seeking one qualified and skilled individual to deliver a variety of services based on the principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), to children and youth within the Halton Region. The services will be designed to meet the individual needs of the clients and their families. Services and supports will be offered within a variety of settings including in-centre, in-home and within the community. Parent and caregiver education will be an integral aspect of the position and will be provided to families in a one-to-one parent coaching format and/or workshop format. The ABA therapist will be part of an interdisciplinary team that supports the client and caregivers in an individualized, collaborative, flexible and responsive approach. This position is a full-time, 6 month contact (40 hours per week). The immediate start date for this position is July 2nd, 2019
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
· Work within a variety of settings including in-centre, within the clients home, and in the community (swimming, Brownies etc.).
· Work collaboratively with the Clinical Supervisor(s) to deliver services to clients and families (i.e. bi-weekly supervision meetings, on-going feedback).
· Services are provided within a one-to-one setting, small and large group setting and community group setting (brownies etc.)
· Develop and deliver group and individual sessions; monitor progress and adjust services accordingly.
· Provide ABA parent training, education and support services for families and caregivers (i.e. in one to one setting and workshop formats).
· Attend a variety of meetings (school, family team meetings etc.) to further the support of individual clients.
· Identify when additional services are needed and work closely with the Family Support Worker to help the family gain access.
· The Therapist is responsible for gathering data, graphing, and for preparing and creating materials for clients and programs.
· Service hours include evenings and weekends.
· Travel is required for this position and includes providing services throughout the Halton Region. Two days will start in Georgetown and three in Burlington.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
· College diploma or university degree in a field related to behavioural science technology, psychology, or social services.
· Professional knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders obtained by special training and experience working with this population is mandatory.
· Minimum of 2 years working with children on the Autism Spectrum and their families, using the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and teaching children in a group setting.
Require Knowledge and Skills:
· Knowledge of typical and atypical child and adolescent development.
· Knowledge of principles of ABA: ability to translate ABA principles into effective intervention strategies for caregivers to understand and implement.
· Knowledge of the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).
· Current certification in first aid, CPR, nonviolent crisis prevention intervention would be an asset.
· Demonstrated experience and success in working with families with children with special needs as there is a strong parent coaching component to this position.
· Certification and or training within the following programs: PRT, PEERS, PECS, Handwriting without Tears, Facing your Fears is considered a strong asset.
· Ability to exercise clinical judgement and work independently.
· Effectively identifies causes and problems and reaches sound conclusions after reviewing available information.
· Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes at work.
· Consistently maintaining high productivity level preserving long hours in order to achieve set goals.
· Working with new processes and people.
· Working with minimal supervision.
· Very strong time management and planning skills.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential as is an engaging personality.
· Demonstrate initiative.
· A reliable vehicle is necessary.
